Fire at Newport pub being battled by firefighters

A fire has broken out at a pub in Newport with thick black smoke billowing from the building.

Fire fighters were called to the Open Hearth pub, in Ringland, at around 2pm to reports of a fire.

At present there are fire crews from Maindee, Malpas and Duffryn and an aerial appliance crew from Cardiff Central.

Officers from Gwent Police are also present and have set a cordon up around the fire.

A spokeswoman from the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said they remain at the scene.

It is believed the pub, in Hendre Farm Drive, closed in 2020.
