A NEW pub has opened in the centre of Newport, offering plenty of live sport and a selection of real ales brewed right here in Gwent.
The Alexandra, at 32 Commercial Street, is owned by the Blaenavon-based Rhymney Brewery and opened its doors to customers this Monday.
“Our first day was brilliant, everyone was saying they were really happy there’s a pub in this area,” landlady Julie Pond told the Argus.
The pub is located in the former Royal Bank of Scotland building right in the middle of the city centre.
Inside, you’ll find a smartly-decorated bar and seating area that retains a traditional feel.
At the bar, the stars of the show are Rhymney Brewery’s own real ales, but there are also plenty of other well-known lagers, and cider, on draught.
Ms Pond said the Alexandra would appeal to sports fans, with several large TVs located around the pub.
A BT Sports subscription means there’ll be plenty of rugby and football to watch, including Wales’ autumn rugby international and every match of the Champions League and Europa League.
She and her team of five colleagues will be welcoming customers seven days a week, 10am-11.30pm from Sunday to Thursday, and 10am-12.30am on Fridays and Saturdays.
