Man taken to hospital following a ‘serious assault’ in Caldicot

A man has been taken to hospital and another has been arrested following a serious assault in Caldicot this morning.

Officers from Gwent Police were called to Longfellow Close in Caldicot just before 5am this morning after receiving reports of a serious assault.

A 29-year-old man was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff following the incident and is currently in a stable condition.

Another man, aged 30, has been arrested on suspicion of assault and is currently in police custody.

Social media posts this morning reported a heavy police presence in the estate, along with a police cordon which remains in place following the incident.

Police are asking anyone with information on the incident to contact the force.

A statement from Gwent Police said: “We received a report of a serious assault in Longfellow Close, Caldicot, today shortly before 5am.

“A 29-year-old man was taken to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff for treatment and he’s currently in a stable condition.

“A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and is in police custody.

“A cordon is currently in place as enquiries continue.
